Zhurauskaite, who renounced her citizenship of the Russian Federation, could be considered promising, said a member of the Presidium of the Council of the SBR Strakhov

Vladimir Strakhov, a member of the Presidium of the RRF Council of the Murmansk region, spoke to about biathlete Lidia Zhurauskaite, who today was deprived of Russian citizenship by order of the President.

– I know Lydia well, because for five years I worked as the head of the Murmansk Olympic Reserve School, where she studied with Honored Coaches of Russia Sergey Konstantinovich Subbotin and Tatyana Nikolaevna Subbotina. Lydia won the national championship, she fulfilled the standard, so she was entered into the CSP as a member of the national team of the Murmansk region.

She began the citizenship change process a year and a half ago. Lidia spent the whole last season in the Lithuanian team – she trained, went to competitions. But, as the citizenship change process was not complete, Zhurauskaite only played in domestic departures. And so, she was at the training camp in Italy, Austria, prepared and waited for all the procedures to be completed.

If you look at the level of development of biathlon in our region, Lidia could be considered a promising athlete. Together with Nastya Egorova, they would look good. Nastya could “lift” Lydia. As for international departures, it’s hard to say here, given that she is already 22-23 years old. In the best-case scenario, Zhurauskaite’s level is a master of world-class sports, Strakhov told .

Earlier it became known that Zhurauskaite filed an application to withdraw citizenship of the Russian Federation. She will play for the Lithuanian national team. The 23-year-old biathlete said her goal is to make it to the 2026 Olympics. Zhurauskaite was not part of the Russian national team and did not win prizes in junior competitions.
