Three-time Russian champion Natalia Shevchenko told that she no longer has space in her cupboard at home for the awards she won in biathlon.
Shevchenko won the pursuit race at the fifth stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Ufa on Saturday. She won the overall ranking of the Russian Cup and also became first in the sprint and pursuit rankings.
— What does winning the chase mean to you?
– Yes, you always want more. When you realize that you can fight for small cups, the appetite, as they say, comes with eating. You start to think you can take this and that.
— You already have a lot of awards in biathlon and, probably, you have a separate shelf at home where you store medals and cups, right?
— Yes, there is a separate shelf, but it no longer contains all the medals and awards. And my husband jokes that I have to buy a separate cabinet for my awards (Laughs). Probably, in the future, when we move to a new apartment, we will find something.
— Do you make a comparison between the medals in cross-country skiing and biathlon?
— When I was skiing, I brought all the medals to my parents in the Vologda region. They are all stored there and I now live in Yekaterinburg, where there are almost no ski medals. Of course, I remember all the medals from skiing, and they are just as dear to me as the awards from biathlon,” Shevchenko told .
Shevchenko previously competed under the name Mekryukov in cross-country skiing. She changed sports in the summer of 2022.
