Biathlon world champion Anton Babikov told that with the double Olympic medalist Alexander Loginov he will participate in the 50 km ski marathon in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The 50 kilometer freestyle race will take place on Saturday March 9. Olympic champion Alexander Legkov and other famous skiers will also take part in the race.
— The organizers have just written to me to ask if I would like to participate. I checked the timing and realized that our schedule on these dates is not very busy. I asked Loginov if he wanted it. “Oh, cool,” Alexander said. So I proposed it myself to the organizers of Loginov, and they accepted with both hands. It turns out he brought the future winner of the race! We didn’t think going to the marathon would disrupt our schedule. We have never been to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and it is quite difficult to simply organize and decide on such a trip. So why not?
We will run 50 kilometers on skates. We will fight (for victory), God himself ordered Loginov to win with his form. I will fight with him and with other guys, there will also be Alexander Legkov, Evgeniy Belov, Andrei Melnichenko – important figures in ski racing. I think we will force the fight. We will see how this distance develops, but we do not see anything terrible in it, if the weather is normal – it all depends on the glide. But everything seems to be fine.
The route is unique: part of it will run along the ocean, and it seems to me that a simple image can energize you during the marathon. Then we will come back and continue preparations (for the Russian Championship). This will be a liberation for us, we will try to minimize all aspects related to time difference. When else can you enjoy sports and get high if not now? We are not collections, we can be forgiven. Let the national team go to the training camp, and we will go to the marathon, where Loginov will continue to show the best movement,” Babikov told .
This season, Babikov, Loginov and Alexander Povarnitsyn are training outside the Russian national team.
The Alfa-Bank Russian Championship will be held in Tyumen from March 23 to 31.
