Head of the Biathlon Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildar Nugmanov told of serious damage to the track of the ski-biathlon stadium in the village of Mirny. Earlier on Friday, commentator Dmitry Guberniev posted a video from the sports complex, one of the sections of the track was partially flooded, the roadway was destroyed in some places.
“Due to heavy rains, the ground under the highway was washed away, light poles fell and the asphalt collapsed along the edges. And now the road is partially working. We are deciding what to do with it And the water is collected at the stadium itself, near the shooting range. There were drainage violations during construction, the workers knew about it, but they did it their own way. And now it’s is the situation, sad and bitter,” Nugmanov told .
– Is the season preparation plan violated?
– Not. The main team is preparing in Abzakovo (Bashkiria), part – in Izhevsk, several athletes – of the Russian team. No one trains in Tatarstan now. On this track, we only started training on roller skates this summer, but the shooting range and the “armorer” are not working yet.
— And what about words on the readiness of the resort by January 2022?
– What is about to open can be said now (laughs). See how it went. Also, the artificial snow system does not work well, and that is a problem. Admittedly, it is imperceptible, but when November arrives, we will learn the difficulties. It works in such a way that we will wait for artificial snow only in February – a very small amount of water will simply not be enough.
– Did someone from the local Ministry of Sports answer?
– Last November, the President of Tatarstan came, harshly criticized the asphalt surface and ordered it to be replaced. But the builders corrected only cosmetically, repaired the cracks, they thought that the head of the region would forget his words and everything would be fine. Builders also refer to the wrong project, and ask for a new one to redo everything. And money. Already 1.25 billion rubles have been spent, built in such a way that the complex can be washed away by any rain, and again they are asking for money.
– Difficulty…
– Yes. All of us, biathletes, skiers, veterans, are very worried.
When was the opening scheduled?
– If you look, it was put into operation in October 2021. Apparently it was only on paper. Our complex is not even registered in the register of the Ministry of Sports, because it is not fully formalized. How many times have we wanted to hold the championship of the Republic of Tatarstan in pneumatic biathlon (shooting from 10 meters) there. For this, a stadium is also not needed – you can arrange it anywhere, all you need is a fence.
According to the description on the website of the Ski Racing and Biathlon Federation of Tatarstan, the construction of a sports complex for training and competitions in cross-country skiing and biathlon in the village of Mirny has been underway since 2019. The facility was expected to be completed in January 2022 and will be used as part of the 2023 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Kazan.
