Olympic medalist in speed skating Daniel Aldoshkine said he had long since stopped following the issue at meetings of the International Skating Union (ISU), that he had not given up hope of participating in the 2026 Games, but that he did not believe in rapid admission from ISU.
At the March meeting of the ISU Council, the issue of possible admission of Russian athletes was not discussed.
— You won many victories during the season, but at the Spartakiad everything went wrong. How do you rate the season in this regard?
— I just got sick before the Spartakiad, so I had to shorten my performance schedule there. I was a little upset that I had to do this, as it is a key start to being able to support myself financially. On the other hand, it’s okay, next season, I hope, I will have better luck with that.
— At the Crystal gala, good prizes were awarded for the 100m, did you want to try your hand at the super short?
— To the “hundredth”? Oh no. But I don’t understand why they aren’t initially en masse, for example. It’s spectacular. I also liked the heat race, I would introduce it into the official competition program, it’s something new and interesting. In general, I liked the competition, I would like such gala performances to become a tradition among us.
— Was the end of the season difficult?
— I am mentally tired because of the illness. It blew me away. Running with a fever, then everything covers you like a snowball.
— Did the fact that the ISU once again not discussed the issue of admitting Russians affect you in any way? Or the whole thing has long since ceased to influence your mood.
– This has long since ceased to have any effect. I don’t believe in a good result.
— You were going to the Olympic Games in Milan.
– I always go there. But it’s one thing if I do it, another thing is whether they will come for me. You can live rosy dreams, but I don’t believe in them yet,” Aldoshkin told .
