In December 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to create training centers for Russian biathlon, cycling and speed skating teams in the Sverdlovsk region.

— This year, the region has already allocated money for certain works. The facility is very large and multifunctional. It won’t be built in one or two years. We hope that we will receive approval of the federal budget and together we will start building this sports complex.

We are used to seeing either a ski and biathlon complex, or an athletics complex, etc. At this facility we plan to implement a biathlon and speed skating complex, as well as football, hockey, swimming and many other sports,” Shipulin told .
