Speed skater Kosheleva about the future sports complex in Yekaterinburg: “We have long wanted to build an indoor ice rink”

Russian speed skating champion Ekaterina Kosheleva hopes that Yekaterinburg will be able to host all-Russian competitions when the order to create a training center is implemented.

Kosheleva plays for the Sverdlovsk region.

In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the government to create training centers in the region for Russian biathlon, cycling and speed skating teams. Anton Shipulin, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, told that the training center would be multifunctional.

— We have wanted to build an indoor ice rink for a very long time, but since the appearance of the “Ural Lightning” in Chelyabinsk, this goal began to gradually fade into the background. All-Union competitions used to be held in Sverdlovsk, and we have many veterans who remember those times and are upset about the current situation. Even the Junior Cup has already been moved from Yekaterinburg,” Kosheleva told .

The key facility for speed skaters in Yekaterinburg is the open ice track at the Yunost Stadium

— The hockey players train in the neighboring building, they came to our aid and offered to renovate them. They need more space and want to rebuild our building into a center where there will be good changing rooms and modern halls. It is necessary to increase the area, because it is almost impossible to increase the area of this sports facility – everything is in the city center. They want to put the infrastructure in order. I don’t know what will happen, but I hope everything works out. I would like all-Russian competitions to take place in Yekaterinburg. We also have good conditions on the ice – the ice is slipping, even when the wind blows across the city, it does not blow towards us much, since the rink is covered on all sides by buildings. And it is more convenient for children to go to the center than for many Muscovites to go to Krylatskoye. I like Krylatskoye, but that’s when you live nearby. And if a person lives, say, in Domodedovo, it’s a two-hour drive. Daily quest,” added Kosheleva.
