“I will do everything possible to win” – Kristina Reztsova about the desire to become the first winner of the Anfisa Reztsova Cup

Olympic biathlon medalist Kristina Reztsova admitted on that she wants to become the first winner of the Cup, named after her mother Anfisa Reztsova.

On Monday at noon Moscow time, the women’s sprint will take place at the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship in Tyumen. Previously, the Russian Biathlon Union (RUB) created a trophy named in honor of three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova. The cup will be awarded annually to the winners of the men’s and women’s sprints at the national championships.

—How important is it to win today? This is a rare case when many competitors wish you victory.

—Actually, I am very grateful to the girls for their good intentions and wishes. Probably, somewhere deep in my soul I sincerely desire to win, but first of all, of course, I don’t think about it. I think about running, shooting and working on the course, how to do everything right and get a decent result.

As for the Cup… Of course, that would be great, I’ll do my best for that.

— You have the starting number eight. How much of a plus is that in this weather?

— We discussed the track with the coaches. It’s very hot, the track is going to be broken. Most leaders fell into the first group. It was clear from the men that the early starting numbers showed the best move. Everyone will fight front and back. “Including me,” Kristina Reztsova said on .

Earlier, based on the results of the men’s sprint in the Czech Republic, Karim Khalili won the trophy.

Anfisa Reztsova won the Olympic Games three times (in 1998 in cross-country skiing and in 1992 and 1994 in biathlon). She died on October 19, 2023 at the age of 58.
