Double Olympic biathlon champion Sergei Chepikov described the act as noble Victoria Slivko who presented the trophy named after Anfisa Reztsova to her daughter Kristina.
On Monday, Slivko won the 7.5 km sprint at the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship in Tyumen and became the first winner of the Cup named after three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova among women. Reztsova’s daughter Christina took second place. At the award ceremony, Slivko presented the trophy to Kristina and asked her to stand on the top step of the podium. The two biathletes hugged each other and could not hold back their tears.
“Slivko did a noble act.” After all, the trophy was created in memory of Kristina Reztsova’s mother. And he was particularly dear to him. I can imagine how happy she is that her teammate did this. After all, they have been playing for the Russian national team for several years.
It’s hard to say whether I would have done this if I were Victoria, because it’s a rather unusual situation. But in this case, she showed a normal human reaction. It’s very touching,” Chepikov told RT.
Anfisa Reztsova died in October 2023 at the age of 59.
