Biathlete Smolsky: “Loginov had better skis in the pursuit, so he got around us easily”

Belarusian national team biathlete Anton Smolsky told that Russian Alexander Loginov beat him in the final lap of the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship pursuit race thanks to better performance in skiing.

Smolsky took fourth place in the pursuit in Tyumen on Tuesday. Ivan Kolotov took first place, Loginov took second place and Eduard Latypov completed the top three.

— Didn’t you give up fighting upon arrival?

— The fight lasted until the last meters, I fought until the finish line. In the middle of the track on the last lap, Latypov tried to escape, but we caught him. On the descent, as I understood, Loginov had better skis, so he calmly went around us.

— Is the Belarusian ski team facing a global problem today?

— We need to consult the guys on how their skis work. But I felt like it was getting harder and harder to walk with each turn. But I will note the difficult weather: the skis are taking on water and the quality of sliding is becoming worse than usual,” Smolsky told .

The women’s pursuit will take place later Tuesday. Watch the live broadcast from 11:35 (Moscow time) on and Match! Arena”, as well as the sites sportbox.ru and matchtv.ru.
