The coaching council of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) has decided to introduce the format of the main and reserve teams starting from the 2024/25 season, reports the head of the RBU press service Sergei Averyanov.
A meeting of the RBU coaching council was held in Tyumen on Thursday.
Starting next season, the men’s and women’s teams will be divided into main, reserve and junior teams. A mixed junior team will also be prepared.
Last season, biathletes of the Russian national team trained in the groups of Mikhail Shachilov, Artem Istomin, Yuri Kaminsky and Vladimir Bragin.
— Coaches voted to return to the main and reserve national team format. There will be no named equivalent coaching groups in the new season. Independent training of athletes at the expense of the regions is allowed.
The criteria for forming national teams participating in international competitions for the 2024/25 season will be presented to the coaching council in September 2024,” Averianov wrote on the Telegram channel.
Russian athletes have been suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) since 2022.
