Senior coach of the Russian national team Yuri Kaminsky told that at the start of the next biathlon season, competitions will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk three times in a row and this cannot be called a positive development.
On Thursday, the coaches council of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) was held in Tyumen. This season, Khanty-Mansiysk hosted the first two stages of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup.
— How many stages will there be at the start of the winter season in Khanty-Mansiysk?
– Three. If the freeze repeats itself, as happened this year, we will find ourselves in a situation where not one stage will be canceled, but two, or in the worst case, three.
—Are you sure there are three stages in one place?
– Of course not. I was one of those who proposed for the 2025/26 season to carry out two stages in Khanty-Mansiysk, one in Tyumen, then in Ufa. The goal is to get away from the frost. Why am I fighting for this? We are faced with the fact that our athletes are getting sick more often. If we take our team, we have more people who are not sick than any other regional team. There are probably reasons for this: we have diagnostics, physiotherapy and a permanent doctor.
— Why was your argument about the stages not accepted?
— Because the UCP (Unified Calendar Plan) has already been approved and it is difficult to change it. “I don’t have the competence to comment on that,” Kaminsky told .
