The new coaching staff will be approved in April
Senior coach Ukrainian women’s biathlon team Nikolay Zots expects that several reserve biathletes will make a breakthrough in results in the near future. The mentor also spoke about the procedure for approving the new coaching staff for the next season.
“There will definitely be moments like this, and more than one, that will shoot out. I am sure about that. There are candidates, there are girls who will make themselves known this season.”
“The Ukrainian Biathlon Championship has ended. Some went home, like Ira Petrenko, to see her child, and some stayed in Bukovel to roll around in the snow for 3-4 days. And then there will be a rest until mid-May. Individual work will be carried out with each athlete. They will keep fit, but we need to rest both physically and psychologically from the season. Therefore, they will definitely have a rest until the beginning of May. Typically, each athlete is given individual plans and they carry them out independently.”
“It’s too early to talk about plans because we don’t know who will work as coaches. We sign contracts with the ministry from May 1 to April 30. Then either the contract is renewed or it is not renewed. Therefore, it will be possible to talk about when the new composition of the coaching teams will be approved, and they will implement their plans. Whether the coaches who worked that season will remain or whether they will be new ones is too early to say. The federations have not yet submitted their proposals.”
“The procedure is such that it may not be a conference, but a coaching council. And at this coaching council, nominations are submitted from the federation to the ministry. Then the candidates submit their documents for the competition to the ministry. The Ministry of Sports is holding a competition for the position of head or senior coach. If the ministry approves, then the new trainers begin work.
“When will this happen? I think during April. The current contracts are valid until April 30, and the new ones from May 1. Therefore, by the end of April everything will be decided. I think everything will be decided earlier, approximately by April 20.”
Earlier it was reported that the head coach of the Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra will leave his position. Zots is called a candidate to replace him.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, the Ukrainian women’s team moved up one place and took ninth place in the Nations Cup. The blue-and-yellows will be able to field five athletes, just like this season.
