On Sunday, Garanichev, a member of the Tyumen region team, won the men’s relay. The 36-year-old biathlete, who announced his retirement from sport at the end of the season, took part in the last stage and finished with the regional flag. After the race, other athletes, coaches, staff and fans held a ceremony at the stadium to honor Garanichev.

Garanichev began his biathlon career in 2008 and made his World Cup debut in 2011 during a stop in Anterselva, Italy. In 2014, he won a bronze medal in the individual race at the Olympic Games in Sochi and became a three-time European champion.
