Biathlete Kolotov: “Maybe I will carry bags for the Uvat marathon so that my feet don’t get wet”

Biathlete Ivan Kolotov told that he got very wet during last year’s marathon in Uvat, so this time he is thinking of putting bags in his boots so his feet don’t get too wet.

Kolotov will take part in the 40-kilometer biathlon marathon as part of the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship in Uvat (Tyumen region) on Thursday. Earlier in Tyumen, the biathlete won the pursuit race.

— Not all biathletes came to Uvat. What brought you to the marathon?

– It’s like a tradition. Despite general fatigue and a quick trip to the Commonwealth Cup stage in Murmansk, participating in the marathon will provide you with overcompensation in terms of recovery. This will benefit me and play a key role in Murmansk.

— How often have you run marathons during your career?

— This is the third time I have run this distance in a biathlon. I like this discipline because it is no longer a start, but a training. After half the distance, the game of control and endurance begins.

— During a marathon, an athlete has a lot of time to think differently. What were you thinking about last year?

— During the last 10 kilometers, I only thought about the fact that my feet were cold, and not about the shot or the distance (laughs). The trail was wet and my boots got wet quickly. This year I even thought about carrying bags, because I need to keep my feet warm.

— It’s not very practical in bags, is it?

– This is understandable, but maybe the legs will be less wet.

— Before the Russian Championship, you said that you would get on the podium. Is there any inspiration here?

— There weren’t as many people as last year. I think many are tired, so there’s a chance. Here, probably, it is not so much the shot that decides, but endurance. I think you can be in the top five or four.

“Here, they offered a car to win the marathon. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a car now?

— Times were different before and, perhaps, car prices were lower than today. But it would be nice to have a car for the race, even a Lada Granta (laughs), Kolotov told .
