Biathlete Victoria Slivko told that during the Uvat marathon she tested the strength and readiness of her opponents like a three-time Olympic cross-country ski champion does Alexander Bolshunov .
Slivko on Friday became the first in the 30 km marathon as part of the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship in Uvat.
– If I am a healthy athlete who trains all year round, why should I skip the marathon? I train to compete. Jumping certainly doesn’t concern me. There must be a specific reason for not participating in the race. It’s probably just an illness. What can I say to those who didn’t come? Well, well done, keep resting (laughs). I hope missing the marathon will help them in Murmansk. I enjoyed the race here and everything is going well.
During the race, I thought about how to distribute my forces and run through the sections correctly. The weather is difficult and everyone knows that I have a special technique. And it’s difficult for me compared to other girls. For example, Irina Kazakevich is a machine and a force! I tried to think of tactics, as they say in skiing, “passport control” (laughs).
– Please explain the sentence.
— They say that it is Alexander Bolshunov who does this. He speeds up, then looks to see who supported him and how. In other words, he checks the readiness of his opponent. He takes a closer look and understands who his main competitor is. And they call it all with such a phrase.
— So today, you won with Alexander Bolshunov’s method?
— Yes, today I decided to use Bolshunov’s method, I checked and understood who was ready for what (laughs). But there were a lot of girls and the wrestling was great. Irinka is a smart girl, we stressed each other throughout the race,” Slivko told .
