Rico Gross has announced that he has left his position as head coach of the Slovenian biathlon team.
Gross will lead the Slovenian team in 2022. Before that, the German specialist worked in the Austrian national team. From 2015 to 2018, Gross served as coach of the Russian men’s team.
— My contract was not renewed by the federation. I was told this happened for financial reasons. This literally means they can no longer afford to pay for my services. Two years ago I was tasked with creating a team with the help of my two Slovenian assistants. They have learned a lot during this period and are now taking the reins into their own hands.
– What are your future plans?
— We still don’t know exactly what will happen in biathlon. In the other teams, everything is busy now. The timing is therefore extremely unfavorable for me. I will look for an alternative,” Gross told Traunsteiner Tagblatt.
Gross is a four-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion.
