President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Viktor Maygurov explained why the decision was made to hold the Russian Biathlon Cup final in the 2024/25 season in Zlatoust.
In February, Zlatoust hosted the competitions of the strongest biathlon Spartakiad. The races took place at the biathlon complex named after Svetlana Ishmuratova, opened for the tournament. At the end of the competition, the governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Alexei Teksler, announced that the final of the 2025 Russian Biathlon Cup would take place on the track.
— It is no coincidence that the choice fell on Zlatoust. It is the birthplace of many of our famous athletes. We received a magnificent stadium that meets the highest standards. We worked a lot with our colleagues at . 25 constituent entities of the Russian Federation took part in the biathlon competitions.
This summer it was decided that Spartakiad would be the main start of the biathlon season. There was enormous interest from the public, which created a real holiday atmosphere. At the same time, our recognized leaders did not always win medals, which indicates strong competition. It’s good when there are leaders, but our sport is interesting because it is unpredictable.
If we had continued to participate in the international season, this event probably would not have happened and we would not have paid attention to the younger generation. Everything that is done is done for the best. There is the legacy of the Olympic Games and that of the Spartakiad. Next season, we will host the final of the Russian Cup in Zlatoust,” reports the correspondent, according to Maigourov’s words.
