Biathlon world champion Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht told that she understands the feelings of athletes who might find themselves without the Olympics due to suspension.
Earlier, Yurlova-Perkht announced that she would retire from her sports career at the end of the current season. The 39-year-old biathlete will participate in the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup, which will be held in Murmansk from April 12 to 14.
— What do you think of the suspension of Russian athletes?
– I have a bad attitude. Because everyone says that you don’t mix sport with anything else, but it’s the opposite. I believe the athletes are completely innocent here. They just have to take the blame for everything else. I wish those who are speaking now to be patient. I really hope these bans are lifted soon.
— To go or not to go to the Olympic Games? What is your status?
– This is a question that has two opinions. On the one hand, there are athletes for whom the presence of the anthem and the flag is very important. I completely understand them and support them to a certain extent. On the other hand, there are athletes for whom these Olympic Games may be the last chance in their sporting career. Many people devote most of their lives to it. And it seemed like there was an opportunity – and then there wasn’t. I have a special relationship with the Olympic Games. I’ve never been to any of the four possible Olympics. Therefore, I completely understand the athletes who are currently in this situation, ”reports the correspondent of , reporting Yurlova-Perkht’s words.
