Biathlete of the Krasnoyarsk Territory team Natalia Gerbulova told that she probably won’t make the Russian national team next season because she had poor performances at the national championship and the Spartakiad.
Gerbulova has been training with the Russian national team since 2022, managed by Artem Istomin. At the end of March, the RBU coaching council decided to introduce the main and reserve team format starting in the 2024/25 season.
On Friday, Gerbulova won a bronze medal in the sprint race at the final stage of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup in Murmansk. She shot without a miss, losing 13.2 seconds to the victorious Belarusian Anna Sole. Second place went to Russian Irina Kazakevich, who won the tournament’s sprint competition.
— What results can we summarize this season?
— I have no victories this season, and in the main competitions for which they were selected in the team, I did not play very well, so to speak. I don’t know what this is connected with, but in principle I am happy with the season: I have no strength at the end, usually at this time of year we play in Kamchatka, but here you have to run (laughs). But I think this third place today is a commendable result, considering my condition.
— Do you understand which team you will work for next season?
“I think the region will support me.” Our base is selected on the basis of two competitions: the Russian Championship and the Spartakiad, where I failed. The second team will be made up of girls born in 1999 and under, I was born in 1995, so I will not pass. I have every confidence in my region, which will support me, I have no doubt. I’m not going to finish or stop. I will note that my shooting has become much better than last season. Maybe this is because everything in my life is now more or less okay, and this helps to unburden me.
— Is it sad that the Istomin team no longer exists?
– Well, why isn’t she here? The coaches stay, and you can also be in contact with them. No one has announced the composition of the teams, these are only my assumptions that I will not get into the first team, but I do not abandon my coaches and I keep in touch with them,” Gerbulova told .
The men’s sprint race as part of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup will take place on Friday, April 12. Watch the live broadcast of the competition on and Match! Arena” from 1:35 p.m. (Moscow time).
