Russian national team biathlete Anastasia Batmanova said that only once in her career had she performed in a single mix with anyone other than a family member.
On Saturday, married couple Anastasia Batmanova and Vasily Tomshin performed together for the first time in a single mixed relay, taking third place at the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup in Murmansk. Previously, the biathlete participated in the Russian championships two years in a row with her father Yuri Batmanov.
— Has your dream of winning together come true?
— The line-up for the single was very unexpected. Neither Vasya nor I asked the coaches to get together. When I saw the protocols, I was very surprised. I immediately wrote to him and we live in different rooms.
— Your heart probably jumped out of your chest when Vasya ran the last stage?
— Yes, it was very difficult to watch the last shot and the last round. Everyone reassured me and said: “It’s Vasya, he did a wonderful finishing lap.” And I told them they didn’t know what condition he was in right now.
“I ran with my dad, and now with my husband too.” Who’s next? Son?
— By the way, so far it turns out that I have the best result with my husband (laughs). Only once in my career have I played a single with someone outside of my family. I’m very happy that everything went so well for us today. I thought that the teams were formed on the principle of “the best with the best”, but it turns out that both must have run badly and joined the same team (laughs),” reports the correspondent. .
Tomshin noted that he was grateful to the coaches for such a choice.
– It turned out very cool. Thank you to everyone involved in this decision. The first thing I did was worry because it was a double responsibility and I didn’t want to let my beloved wife down. But then I decided to enjoy it, because it is our joint family celebration.
— Were there not enough Belarusian competitors in the race?
“Yes, of course, it’s a shame they didn’t participate in the single mix,” he said.
