Biathlete Kazakevich: “It is sad that Slivko did not fully fight for victory at the Commonwealth Cup”

Olympic silver medalist in biathlon Irina Kazakevich admitted that she was upset because of the absence Victoria Slivko during the final race of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup stage in Murmansk.

On Sunday, Kazakevich took third place in the mass start and won the overall Commonwealth Cup. Slivko, who led the standings before Sunday’s race, did not compete due to illness.

— The season finale turned out to be emotional because not everything went well for me. In any case, even with such a successful end to the season, it was not possible to fully realize it. Nevertheless, I am happy with this result.

— Slivko, with whom you fought for the general classification, did not start. Did that mean you would win the trophy before the start?

– No, we had a slight difference with Tamara Derbusheva. Before this stage, I was third overall in the ranking. The fight took place more between Toma and Vika, but then the situation changed. If Victoria had started on Sunday, the fight would have been brighter. Yes, there is a bitter feeling that Victoria did not reach the final race. Apparently the long season took its toll.

— But the goal was to win the Cup?

“Of course, I understood that anything was possible.

—When did you realize you had won?

– When I’m done. In the last round, there were no such thoughts. I just wanted to get to the finish line as quickly as possible, because the course is very difficult. I also fell and got wet on the way up (laughs). I drove and thought, “My God, when am I going to cross the finish line?”

— The fall was not broadcast, where was it?

— I went to the first stand. On the way up, she tripped and drowned in the snow, crouching with her whole body. From the outside it looked funny, as if I was just sitting down to rest on the climb (laughs), – the correspondent reports Kazakevich’s words.
