Olympic biathlon medalist Cherezov explained how he feels about holding races in severe frost conditions

Double Olympic medalist and three-time biathlon world champion Ivan Cherezov told what he thought about organizing races in severe frost conditions.

— According to the regulations, it is not recommended to run [при температуре] below 20 degrees below zero. This is due to the technical operating conditions of the weapon. I completely agree that it is not very pleasant to run in -18 or -20 degrees, but since such standards exist, you have to perform well.

Athletes must protect themselves: dress warmly, use masks, nasal ointments, etc. Yes, running in cold weather is uncomfortable, but over time the body gets used to many things. Personally, I had difficulty competing in the cold. When you participate in international competitions for many years, where the weather is milder, you feel uncomfortable in the cold,” Cherezov was quoted as saying by “Championship”.

Last season, the stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Cup in Tyumen was canceled due to severe frosts. Moreover, for a similar reason, some departures did not take place within the framework of the stage of the Russian Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk.
