Russian biathlete Natalia Shevchenko said that during the off season she had surgery to correct her vision.
Shevchenko, who previously competed in cross-country skiing, won the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) overall ranking at the end of the 2023/24 season, earning 1099 points.
— Basically, I had enough time to rest. I want to start training already. Unfortunately, it was not possible to go anywhere at sea due to eye surgery. There was vision correction and the doctors did not allow me to fly due to a drop in pressure. And before the operation it was also not possible to go anywhere, because there was preparation. This involved taking tests and going to the doctor. I was in Yekaterinburg all the time.
The eyes only recover a week after the operation. The vision is still being adjusted. The eye muscles are not used to the new format. Before that, I wore contact lenses constantly. Now I see the same thing, but without them. But I hope it gets even better. We will evaluate the result of the correction later.
Will I be able to photograph more precisely after the operation? There may be adjustments in shooting training. In the new season I will leave with a new look,” Shevchenko said at the Championship.
