“Club biathlon is the future in Russia” – former head of the RBU Drachev

Former President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Vladimir Drachev highlighted the prospects for the development of club biathlon in Russia.

The first International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) Cup took place in November 2023 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Russian and Belarusian biathletes took part in the races.

— Club biathlon is the future. He is just beginning to be reborn. Companies that have so far allocated money without initiative can be involved in its financing. We need to change the structure and performance of financing. We have clubs CSKA, Dynamo, Lokomotiv and others can go further, we can revive the club system as it existed in the USSR. Stronger biathlon regions may also have their own clubs.

Let the Russian Championships and Spartakiad remain the responsibility of the regions, and in other competitions there may be a club system. I support Nuzhdov in his efforts. Each club should constitute an elite for athletes, ensuring them significant income in addition to bonuses for certain competitions. Clubs can finance the training of athletes, provide everything necessary, including accommodation. The level of these athletes will increase and for others, entering this club will be a good incentive.

The feasibility of this project will depend on the support provided to Nuzhdov, who promotes this topic. This is the safest path for the development of Russian biathlon, which will give the opportunity to find sponsors and grow to athletes who are no longer interested in participating in the Russian Cup,” Drachev told Metaratings.ru .
