French biathlete Simone fined and ordered to pay compensation in fraud case

Six-time French biathlon world champion Julie Simon found guilty in a fraud case, reports La Stampa.

The Albertville public prosecutor’s office completed an investigation, following which Simone was sentenced to a fine and compensation, the amount of which was not specified.

In July last year, reports emerged that Simon was suspected of bank card fraud. One of the claims against Simone was filed by her teammate Justine Brezaz-Boucher. Justine’s lawsuit states that Simone used her credit card and made purchases worth between one thousand and two thousand euros, but the athlete denied all accusations.

The fraudulent purchase was recovered by Italian operators from the Modana Police and Customs Cooperation Center, who were able to identify the buyer as Simon.

Simon is a silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics in the mixed relay.
