Russian athletes had no hope that the International Luge Federation (FIL) would allow them to compete, the president of the Russian Luge Federation told . Natalia Garth .
Following the results of the 72nd Congress in Lake Placid, America, the FIL decided to extend the suspension of Russian athletes from participation in international competitions.
– Nothing surprising happened. We had no hope that the decision would be different. The attitude towards us has not changed. At the congress we said that as a federation we are doing everything we can: our athletes continue to train, we hold competitions for adults and young people and we try not to slow down. But at the same time, we understand that we really need international competitions, because it is impossible to survive for a long time only on national competitions. We have been heard, but this is nevertheless the situation for the moment.
— Has the duration of the suspension been specified?
– As I understand it, until the next meeting of Congress. And until the political situation changes, even if it is in the sporting field,” Garth told .
Russian athletes have been suspended from tournaments under the auspices of the FIL since March 2022.
