Serokhvostov on his return to Kaminsky’s group: “The situation is the same, my beloved friend is simply not there”

Russian biathlete Daniel Serokhvostov told that he had friendly relations with Karim Khalili despite the fact that they now train in different groups.

Serokhvostov left Yuri Kaminsky’s group to coach Artem Istomin in 2022. In April, the 25-year-old athlete was included in the main roster of the Russian national team, led by Kaminsky. Khalili was recommended by the executive committee of the coaching council of the Russian Biathlon Union for independent training.

— You have already organized several training camps in Kaminsky’s group. How do you feel, what are your impressions?

– Good mood. I’ve trained here before, so I’m not particularly impressed.

— Nevertheless, you trained in the women’s team for two years, do you feel any differences now?

— No, the guys are like the girls on our team (laughs). I have a few friends here who complain constantly, so nothing has changed, for me the situation is the same. I just don’t have a sparring partner, my beloved friend, but it’s still the same.

— Do you keep in touch with Khalili?

– Yes, we will write off. He tells how well he is doing there, how he is training, how motivated he is. Basically, I tell him the same thing. Therefore, we have a connection, we are friends as usual, but not together.

— When did you learn that starting this season the national team will have a division of training groups into a base and a reserve? And how did you react to finding yourself in Kaminsky’s group?

— I found out about it last season, probably in December-January, although there were such rumors even earlier. And to go or not to go was probably decided after Chrysostom. The final decision was made in Murmansk. I talked with Artem Evgenievich (Istomin) and Vitaly Viktorovich (Noritsyn), and they told me: “It’s better to go, you will be better there, in the team, in sparring and so on.”

— Did you have any internal conflicts when you joined Yuri Mikhailovich’s group? However, you previously had some disagreements.

— There were, but I didn’t want to go, not because of disagreements or anything else, it just seems to me that there was a very good plan. Well, let’s see this season. In principle, I ran well during the Olympic season, I improved in the following seasons, but I was often sick,” Serokhvostov told .

Serokhvostov is the winner and medalist of the World Cup stages, champion of Russia in sprinting.
