Athletistic / Winter sports. For the first time in three years, the International Skating Union (ISU) has included Russian representatives in the lists of judges and starters for international short track and speed skating competitions. The Russians were admitted for the 2024/2025 season.
The ISU press service separately emphasizes that the officials of the Russian Skating Union and the Belarusian Skating Union will not be invited, appointed or allowed to participate in international competitions and events under the auspices of the ISU due to the events in Ukraine. It is specified that the final lists for the next season will be approved by the organization and will come into force on August 1, 2024.
In early July, the International Skating Union (ISU) unexpectedly granted Russia and Belarus quotas to participate in the Junior Grand Prix figure skating competitions. This is the first step towards a meeting between the parties. On March 1, 2022, against the backdrop of the start of the SVO and pressure from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the ISU Council suspended all Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments. In June 2023, the ISU Governing Board confirmed this decision until further notice.
