Ushakov, three-time biathlon world champion, dies at 77

Three-time world champion Alexander Ushakov has died at the age of 76, the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union (RUB) reports, citing the Udmurt Biathlon Federation.

Ushakov won gold at the World Championships (1970, 1974, 1977) as part of the relay teams, and he also won silver at the 1975 World Cup. Ushakov was a member of the USSR Olympic team in 1972 (Sapporo), 1976 (Innsbruck) and 1980 (Lake Placid), but remained among the reserves at each of the Olympic Games.
