Coach of the Russian reserve biathlon team Artem Istomin stated that Karim Khalili will compete in the Commonwealth Cup stage in Krasnoyarsk despite a shoulder injury.
Earlier in August, Olympic medalist Khalili said in an interview with that he seriously injured his shoulder while training on a bike at one of the summer training camps. Khalili trains independently in the off-season. In addition, a biathlete can hold training camps under the guidance of Artem Istomin.
“We thought it would be much worse.” Karim is now recovering and undergoing a rehabilitation course. He has already started training and is doing a lot. Of course, these are not the same loads that he did before, but we plan to participate in the next competitions, that is, in the Commonwealth Cup in Krasnoyarsk. There we will assess his running and functioning condition. There we will make decisions on the continuation of training and how we will prepare for the season. We will determine what starts we need. Everything will depend on how he recovers.
Naturally, the injury is not simple; there was a dislocation of the shoulder. After such an injury, many people take a long time to recover. For now, we have decided to do without surgery. If it interferes with his training and competitions, we will already think about what to do next, “Istomin said in a video published by the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR).
The first stage of the Commonwealth Cup will take place in Krasnoyarsk from September 6 to 8.
