Mandzyn wins gold in junior pursuit at 2024 Summer Biathlon World Championships

Ukrainian becomes two-time world champion after sprint success

Ukrainian Vitaly Mandzyn conquered gold V pursuit race among juniors on 2024 Summer Biathlon World Championshipsbecoming a two-time world champion.

Vitaliy started from the first position. The Ukrainian made a mistake on the first shooting, but retained the lead. Then Mandzyn passed two shooting ranges without misses, and made three mistakes on the last shooting. The time reserve and mistakes of the rivals were enough to win gold.

Second place went to Havard Tosterud, third to another Norwegian, Sivert Gerhardsen. Let us recall that all three placed in the same order in the sprint on Saturday.

Among other Ukrainians, Bohdan Borkovsky managed to enter the top three for a while, but could not hold on and took 11th place. He was followed by Serhiy Suprun (13th) and Mykhailo Khmil (19th). Yegor Makarenko came in 37th.

The Ukrainians have six medals at the 2024 Summer World Championships, including three gold ones. In addition to Mandzyn’s two golds, Dmytro Pidruchnyi became the champion in the men’s super sprint, and Artem Tyshchenko won silver. Also in the junior sprint, Viktoria Khvostenko and Olena Gorodnaya won silver and bronze, respectively.

There will be three more pursuit races on the final day of competition at the Summer World Championships, with junior women and men and women in the elite groups taking to the start line.
