The President of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine spoke about athletes who did not compete in the 2024 Summer World Championships
President Biathlon Federation of Ukraine Ivan Krulko spoke about the reasons for the absence Artem Prima, Daria Blashko And Yulia Gorodnaya at the 2024 Summer World Championships, which took place in Otepää, Estonia.
“As for Artem Prima, he expressed a desire to suspend active participation in international competitions. Naturally, Artem will compete in the Ukrainian championships, but he is already starting to prepare for coaching work.”
“I think that Artem gave the team everything he could – he is a great athlete with great human qualities, and, of course, we count on him in our biathlon family. At the end of last season, I had a long conversation with him, and Artem personally believes that he can now take the place of those young athletes who can work for the future. Well, let’s be honest, last season we lost one quota place at the World Cup, and we need to win it back.”
“As for the two girls. Darya Blashko did not train with the team – there are personal reasons why she made this decision. If she ever wants to resume active training – our door is always open, and everything will depend only on her. But now her first priority is her personal life, not sports.”
“We were counting on Yulia Gorodnaya, but she also decided to take a break from sports for now. Although we saw potential in her, and Yulia had every chance to work with the main team this season.”
“We can, of course, convince athletes, but if a person has no desire, then we need to open the way for those who do. We can create motivation and conditions for training and we will do so. But we will not force anyone to train.”
In the spring, Krulko reported that Prima was thinking about ending her sports career. Darya Blashko, who will focus on solving health problems, was not included in the women’s team for the new season.
At the 2024 Summer World Championships, Ukraine won six medals. In the men’s super sprint, Dmytro Pidruchnyi became the champion, and Artem Tyshchenko won the silver medal. In the junior sprint, Viktoria Khvostenko and Elena Gorodnaya won silver and bronze, respectively. And Vitaliy Mandzyn won two golds in the sprint and pursuit race among juniors.
