“Our pasta has a pasta name.” National team coach – about the nutrition of biathletes in training camp

Coach of the Russian team Artem Istomine told about the lack of long carbs in regular store groceries.

There are ten athletes in Istomin’s group: Kristina Reztsova, Ksenia Dovgaya, Ekaterina Noskova, Svetlana Mironova, Elizaveta Kaplina, Anastasia Goreeva, Larisa Kuklina, Natalya Gerbulova, Daniil Serokhvostov and Karim Khalili.

– Of these places where the training camp took place this year, which one is the best, according to you?

– Belarusian Raubichi. It has everything: shooting ranges, gymnasiums, skating rinks to choose from, comfortable accommodation. In Russia, this moment will also improve, the situation is favorable there. We are fine now, the main difficulty is food. It’s not about volume, but about quality and balance. If we underestimate this moment, we will have difficulty recovering.

Decipher the quality of the power supply, if possible.

Let’s say pasta. What could happen to them? Bought, soldered, all the same. Not really. In what is on store shelves, sometimes only the name comes from pasta. Foreigners eat plates full of pasta in three hours to begin with for a reason, but because it’s good for the metabolism. The composition of our pasta does not cover certain needs, in long carbohydrates for example. And if we don’t get it from food, we have to use supplements, which we wouldn’t want, food in this regard is more organic.

We manage, of course, we get something, we buy more. It is in our interest, after all. Yes, and in the regions almost always go ahead. Now in Tyumen, for example, we coordinate the menu with the management, we will receive everything we need. But it would be in every athlete’s best interest to have an established diet in training camp.
