Executive Director of the Russian Biathlon Union (RUB) Alexander Pak said one of the innovations of the season will be to present the Commonwealth Cup winners with 24-carat gold-plated medals.

The summer stage of the Alfa Bank Commonwealth Cup will take place from September 6 to 8 in Krasnoyarsk.

— Starting from the new season, the men’s and women’s winners will receive not only the Grand Crystal Globe, but also a sum of one million rubles in cash. In addition, within the framework of this ranking, the best young biathletes (under 23 years old) will be encouraged; in addition to the cups, they will receive 500,000 rubles;

Within the framework of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup, a classification is also maintained, the winners of which receive crystal cups. In addition, along with the cup, the winners of the overall classification will receive 750,000 rubles each, and in the disciplines (sprints, pursuit races, mass starts) – these are small classifications, the winners will receive small cups and 300,000 rubles each.

Another innovation is that from the new season of the Commonwealth Cup, the gold medals are actually gilded with 24 carat gold. The silver ones are nickel-plated, the bronze ones are copper-plated. All the medals have a brass base,” a correspondent reported, citing Pak.
