Executive Director of the Russian Biathlon Union (RUB) Alexander Pak said that in the future it will be possible to hold winter races in Krasnoyarsk if logistical problems can be resolved.
The summer stage of the Alfa-Bank Commonwealth Cup will take place from September 6 to 8 in Krasnoyarsk, the Alfa-Bank Russian Championship will take place from September 12 to 15.
— Winter competitions are held here, but these are competitions for young biathletes. The main problem with organizing winter competitions in Krasnoyarsk is logistics. We hold competitions almost every week, and it is difficult to move from a city in Western Siberia or the Urals to Krasnoyarsk in one go. Especially since there are practically no direct flights anywhere, only via Moscow. By “moving everyone,” I mean not only athletes and coaches, but also the team – 80-90 people who also drive cars, and we all think that we are one big joint team – that is, 400-450 people. If we hold competitions every week, we physically do not have time to come here and we cannot come.
But the experience of holding these competitions gives a plus on the scale. The main condition is logistics. It is difficult to organize one of the successive stages here, but the Russian Championship or a stage of the Russian Championship, where there is a week before the start and a week after the start, is a pleasure. Let’s not say that only summer biathlon will remain here. That is why we are holding competitions here now, that is why we are proposing requirements for the number of changing rooms and waxing cabins in order to hold competitions here in winter, “Pak reports.
