“Viktor Ahn in South Korea has difficult relations with the federation and his compatriots, this affects his family” – Gulyaev

President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Guliaev said the six-time Olympic champion Victor An will not be able to work in Russia and job applications in Russia will complicate his situation in South Korea.

Before the Sochi Games, Ahn changed his sports citizenship from Korean to Russian and won individual distances and relay races at the 2014 Olympics. After finishing his career, he worked in China and then again in South Korea.

— I wanted to invite Viktor An to Russia, but they told me that it was better not to do so, because he already has, so to speak, difficult relations with the federation and his compatriots.

— Was the word “persecution” used in the TASS interview?

– Well, it’s not persecution.

— How did you discover that this is such a difficult situation and how does it manifest itself?

– It concerns his wife and children. It is mostly private. So let’s limit ourselves to general words. And at work, you know he tried to get a job as a team coach, but it didn’t work out.

– But it works.

– Not at the level we would like. Of course, I would like to see it here in Russia, but it is impossible, – Gulyaev told .

Viktor Ahn won three gold medals at the 2006 Games as a member of the South Korean team, then three gold medals at the 2014 Games in Sochi for the Russian team.
