The International Biathlon Union has postponed the introduction of a complete ban on the use of fluoride for the 2023/24 season.

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced on the official website that a complete ban on the use of any fluorine-containing product for the preparation of skis will be introduced during the 2023/24 season.

The ban was to be implemented from the coming season, but the IBU said “extensive testing of the fluorine detector with experts from national federations and the FIS (International Ski Federation) concluded that It took longer to test the new detector without fluoride paraffins to ensure accurate results.Testing of new products continues.

At the same time, the ban on the use of products containing perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA/C8), which was introduced by the IBU in June last year, remains in effect for the upcoming season. The IBU and the FIS have decided to phase out the use of fluorinated substances due to the serious pollution of the environment and the risk of harming human health.
