Presenter and commentator Dmitry Guberniev told that not all Russian athletes associated with skiing should hope for a quick return to the international calendar.
Swedish newspaper Expressen reported on Friday that the International Ski Federation (FIS) has extended the suspension of Russian athletes from participating in tournaments under its auspices for the coming season.
– This is not news, maybe someone was hoping that the FIS would exclude the Norwegians and take us instead, but there is no chance of returning today. Anything related to skiing is out of the question, including biathlon. In 95% of cases, the 2026 Olympics will not happen to us. I feel sorry for the athletes who are hoping for a miracle. But there will be no miracle without a radical change in the political agenda.
We are competing here and we are getting used to it, we are aware of what is happening. But we can’t isolate ourselves from the world, we have to organize club competitions, invite the Chinese, maybe someone else will come.
Belarusians are also not allowed to compete, we must continue to invite them. That’s why I fought so hard against idiots who behaved a bit like the International Biathlon Union (IBU), by not allowing them to participate in the mass start of the Spartakiad, without including the anthem. And now these fools are telling us that we cannot live without Belarusians. It’s true, the minister has changed, the situation has changed,” Guberniev told .
