Russian Skeleton Olympic Games Silver Medalist Nikita Tregubov told that the Latvian Martins Dukurs made the informed decision to end his career.
Dukurs announced his retirement from professional sports on Friday at the age of 38.
– Martins is a strong athlete, the most successful in the World Cup, World Championships and Europe. He’s been in the sport for over 20 years – we have guys on the team who were just born while he’s been to the Olympics before. He did the right thing, which ended his career, made a balanced decision. Probably, he was tired, the hope he wanted to realize did not come true.
I communicate well with him, sometimes we keep in touch. Nothing appears in the communication (due to recent events in the world). I don’t think he will train, he has done enough sport in his life. As far as I know, he does other things,” Tregubov told .
Dukurs is a two-time Olympic silver medalist, six-time world champion, 12-time European champion and the record holder for most overall World Cup wins. He was repeatedly recognized as the best sportsman of the year in Latvia.
