— Artem, you were very involved in the work on the blog after the Games. Why?
– In Beijing, when we arrived at the Games, I learned that biathlete Valeria Vasnetsova had been admitted to a covid hospital there. Two positive PCRs and no symptoms. She stayed in the covid hospital, they fed her there worse than a dog, she was in no mood. The man was obviously depressed. She did not have the chance to participate in the Olympics. For any athlete, this is terrible pain that cannot be expressed in words.
And the devil made me click on the comments under this post. What disgusting and toxic comments there were, with no empathy! As if a bunch of maniacs who, without that, morally destroyed girl, spread the rot further! Spoiled with such words that I can’t even repeat, though I don’t usually go up in my pocket for a word.
The man went to the Olympic dream and suddenly lost this chance. I was very surprised that people have absolutely no understanding of how difficult this road to the Olympics is and all they see are cars and prize money. People just don’t realize that many games are once in a lifetime and it’s the only chance to win.
– The girl was preparing, she came to the Olympics, and because of two PCR tests she ended up in exactly the swamp in which everyone was afraid to be.
And I wanted to explain what a sporting career is in the form of a kind of dialogue, to say how much all this is given. It was the first reason. Second, if I’m good at anything, it’s blogging. This is what I do well, and the area in which I am well versed.
– Here is a boring voice of these same comments – so it is better oriented in blogging or in speed skating? He’s going ice skating!
– I won’t even deny that if you work well on a project, it’s hard to combine. And, of course, most creative forces go to sports. But it’s easy for me to go to the shoot, even if it’s there and 100 km away, it’s easy for me to sit down with the editor and work on the video. It does not require a lot of energy costs.
– Just with swimmers, they recently said that this is an absolutely individual story – such media projects and social networks interfere with someone, they give someone the opportunity to be distracted.
– I am definitely of the second category. Last year, I was very discreet and avoided the cameras, I spoke to the press at a minimum, because I was too pushed on the subject of the Olympic medal, for which I had a chance. I also gave a moving interview after the distance, and yes, I remember the flurry of negative comments I got. I do not regret it. But then the understanding definitely came – something has to be changed for people to learn to perceive all of this adequately.
“I used to think that my focus on the target didn’t involve spraying. But now I understand – the more pleasure you get from the process, the better the hormonal background, the more positive your emotions in the process. It gives me an influx of energy. Also, even if you don’t reach your goal, at least you’ll appreciate how far you’ve come.
– Dmitry Dorofeev does not say: “Arefiev, close the shop, stop all these shootings”?
– He just largely agrees that our sport lacks media coverage and lacks support. He doesn’t stop me. He even helped with the shooting of a video, when they took young guys and on the last day of training they performed an endurance test: they jumped “diamonds”, which are bigger. At some point, he moves forward. It creates the feeling that these are not just my wishlist, but some kind of contribution to our common goal.
– Now onto the video. Lots of shiny details – where did the pink earmuff come from?
– Every blogger should have a certain image, but I didn’t care. And now I arrive at the set, and my head is dirty. Pasha Kulizhnikov was also at the filming, and just from St. Petersburg – he gave me an earmuff, and they filmed him.
Why was the first video about money?
— This video had no script, only my creative impulse. Filmed by myself, except for a few moments. I looked for music myself, I put it together myself.
Well, everyone is interested in money. I said how the salary is roughly formed and it’s not such a big amount of money to discuss like that. Also, I interviewed Dani Aldoshkin, who won the Olympics. I think this material should be re-shot with a more serious approach.
– Many don’t like to talk about money, and athletes sometimes unwittingly join in the toxic “why did he sell the car” discussion.
– As for me, I have never hidden how much I earn. I talk about it calmly and openly. And in our sport, there is not so much money.
– The prize money should definitely be higher than it is now.
– I think a person who becomes the best in the world should not think about money for two or three years. That is, you have received some kind of victory dividend, invested wisely, and for two or three years you cannot think of how to support your family, your children, your pay for the house.
As sad as it may seem, our football players are far from the first in the world, they receive much more than the skaters who win the world championships or even become the first in history – like Pavel Kulizhnikov, who has set a historic world record.
In no way am I complaining. It’s just that the ceiling of possible winnings in our sport is very limited. Therefore, we all need to think about the future now.
– You will now be reminded that you are state employees and it would be good to look for sponsors.
– I agree, there should be sponsors. But I think it is in the interest of budgetary institutions to find sponsors for professional sportsmen. In this case, the flow of funds going to the national teams will go to the development of the sport in the regions.
In Cherepovets, for example, we have an ice rink 333 meters long, they no longer work on it. Many things can be changed and improved, but we have to work in this direction. It’s ok, but could be more effective.
– Regarding the video with acceleration behind the Cadillac. Where did the idea come from?
– At first they wanted to accelerate behind Ruslan Murashov’s car, but it turns out that they rented a Cadilac Escalade. This is a big machine that almost completely hides the rider from the wind. That day, the Cadillac driver was supposed to take people to the wedding, but something changed. Cadillac picked up speed smoothly, I tried to accelerate so that everyone was going crazy.
I’m especially proud of this video – I’ve never risked my life for the content before. The emotions were dead and the speed was so… People associated with sports will fall out of the speed at which they can accelerate.
– Who from the team is involved in the filming process?
– Yes, almost everything. Dmitry Dorofeev was also in a video. Vitek (Mushtakov) often meets halfway – you can count on him. The young people who have just joined the team are open to all media movements.
– And back to the topic of sports and that very interview at the Olympics. Survived? Everything left in the past?
– I don’t regret what I said. He told it like it is, like it was (“Shit on all fronts.” – “”). Wouldn’t change a single word now.
After the Olympics, I sat at home for a week and a half… Defeats are always like hard lessons that go over your head, and it’s important to be able to survive them. At some point, after all this stupor, I got up and went to buy my first camera. In principle, my blog started with this purchase. He doesn’t let me get discouraged – and on the contrary, I start thinking about the next subject of the video.
