President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBR) Viktor Maygurov admitted that the Russian biathlon team as a whole will participate in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
On Thursday, the forum “Russia – a sports power” opened in Ufa. The 2026 Games will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
— Will some Russians go to the 2026 Olympics?
— It is difficult to predict anything, we are in one way or another in dialogue with the international federation. We are optimistic that a number of our athletes will be admitted, and perhaps even the entire roster. Today is a story, but in a week or a month everything will change.
— Summer sports were delayed until the last moment, judokas abandoned the Games at the last moment. Will you also be delayed until January 2026?
— All our preparations are built taking into account participation in the Olympic Games. We are ready to participate in international competitions at any time, including the Olympic Games.
— Is the season schedule very busy? Should we create new competitions?
— We have the optimal number of competitions, the calendar is approximately synchronized with the international calendar. 90% of our competitions take place during the World Cup or World Championships. Athletes certainly do not ask for new starts, although we periodically give them more,” Maigurov told on the sidelines of the forum.
