Fourcade announced that he would apply for the position of head of the organizing committee for the 2030 Olympic Games

Five-time Olympic biathlon champion Martin Fourcade announced his intention to run for the post of head of the organizing committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics, which will be held in the French Alps.

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron called Fourcade the ideal candidate for the position. The French Alps, based on the voting results, were approved as the venue for the XXVI Olympic Winter Games in 2030 at the 142nd IOC session in Paris.

— The Paris 2024 Olympics reminded me of a large part of my history with the Games, I experienced special emotions. All this determined my commitment (in this project), as well as my high level of ambition. There is a certain history of responsibility. It’s a bit theatrical to say this, but we are at a turning point in the history of the Winter Games and the challenges associated with them. I feel responsible for the implementation of this project.

I am not committed to personal ambitions, but to collective ambitions. We have a project that brings together a whole group of different ‘actors’, two regions, economic partners, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), athletes, and I feel the support of all these stakeholders,” said Fourcade, quoted by L’Equipe.

The Paris Summer Olympics took place from July 26 to August 11. The Games organizing committee was led by three-time Olympic rowing and slalom champion Tony Estanguet. Fourcade was elected as an IOC member in 2022 as a representative of the Athletes’ Commission.

The last Winter Olympics took place in February 2022 in Beijing. The next 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
