The leader of the Ukrainian national team does not rule out that he may skip certain stages of the World Cup for the sake of better preparation for the Olympic Games
Captain of the Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Dmitry Pidruchny spoke about his plans for the coming season, which can be adjusted with an eye to preparing for Olympic Games 2026.
“I wouldn’t say that I’m preparing specifically for this season. Job, [в частности] carried out in the summer, should give its results primarily at the Olympics.”
“With less than two years before the Olympic Games, I need to prepare for them if I plan to participate. The races I plan to run in during the season are designed in such a way as to prepare for the Olympics. Of course, adjustments can be made depending on the results, health status and the load given by the coach.”
“Will I skip certain stages? My coach and I have an understanding, but we won’t announce it yet – a lot will depend on what condition I’ll be in and how the season will start. Even the fact that I’m sick now also makes certain adjustments to my preparation. We’ll look at the situation to see if we’ll change the plans we have now or keep them.”
Let us remind you that Pidruchny became the winner of the super sprint at the 2024 Summer Biathlon World Championships. Later, the leader of the men’s team won the Ukrainian Championship in this discipline. In October, it became known that Dmitry plans to take part in the traditional Christmas race, which will take place in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on December 28.
The 2024/25 Biathlon World Cup starts on November 30, 2024 in the Finnish city of Kontiolahti and ends on March 23, 2025 in Holmenkollen, Norway. The Biathlon World Championships will be held in Lenzerheide, Switzerland from February 12 to 23, 2025.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in February of the same year in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Licenses for these Olympic Games will be awarded from the beginning of the 2024/25 season.
