Olympic medalist in biathlon Irina Kazakevich told that she expects interesting storylines and competitions from the International Club Biathlon League (MLCB) YANGPUR Cup.
The YANGPUR MLCB Cup will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk. On November 16, a mass start will take place, and on November 17, a mixed relay will take place, in which 15 teams from Russia and Belarus will participate. The biathletes will not represent the regions, but the biathlon clubs. A total of 60 athletes will participate in the competition.
— How are you preparing for the start of the season?
— Now we are in Khanty-Mansiysk, most of the athletes are already there. There are still a little fewer biathletes than skiers, but everyone is gradually catching up. We are preparing as usual, a bit like last season. The atmosphere is more or less normal, it’s still running in, there’s a little fatigue, so we’re already waiting for the departures to begin.
— The season opens with the MLKB Cup. What are your expectations from these beginnings?
— A very interesting start, as the teams will be incredibly strong, based on the lineups already announced. This is something unusual, because most often teams from regions participate, but here there are super strong teams, so it will be interesting! There is enthusiasm, everyone is waiting. In addition, it will be the first departure, and you don’t always know what to expect from yourself at the first departures (smiles). I want to succeed.
— How was the composition of your team formed?
— The line-up consisted largely of Kirill Bazhin and me. He first proposed and asked if I wanted to start a team, since these teams are “sponsored”, and I just have one sponsor. I said that in principle it was possible, but in our case everything is decided by Mikhail Viktorovich Shachilov. Then I received an offer from the sponsor itself if I wanted to build a team myself, and Kirill and I started to decide together. They thought Savely Konovalov should be there and there would be no place without Tamara Derbusheva. Naturally, we asked them, they agreed – that’s how the training was formed.
— Which teams do you think will participate in the mixed relay?
— I think all the teams (smile), because they are all at a high level. The Belarusian teams are super strong, especially the one that participated in the World Cup (Anton Smolsky, Dmitry Lazovsky, Dinara Smolskaya, Anna Sola – Rating from ).
I would like to mention Karim Khalili’s team (also consisting of Daniil Serokhvostov, Anastasia Khalili and Victoria Slivko). There are other teams who are going to impose a fight, I already know their compositions, but they have not yet presented them, so I will not talk about it for the moment (smiles). There are a lot of strong teams, so it will be interesting.
