Winner of the mass start competition of the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) last season, Olympic medalist Karim Khalili told that he was interested in the format of club competitions with strong participants and healthy competition.
The YANGPUR MLCB Cup will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk. On November 16, a mass start will take place, and on November 17, a mixed relay will take place, in which 15 teams from Russia and Belarus will participate. The biathletes will not represent the regions, but the biathlon clubs. A total of 60 athletes will participate in the competition.
— What are your expectations from the MLBB Cup?
— We are already waiting for the start of the season. And it’s great that it starts with such an interesting tournament like MLCB. So we look forward to seeing all the strong teams take the start.
— Why do these club competitions interest you?
— I believe that in general the MLKB tournament is a step towards the development of biathlon in our country, especially since we managed to build fairly strong teams. Thanks are due to all the team sponsors who were so actively involved in this project and who ultimately made it possible to quickly build the teams. As far as I know, almost all teams will have equipment, you don’t see that even in the Russian Cup, so I think it’s very interesting.
— The teams participating in the MLKB Cup presented their compositions in video format. Did you follow the publication of these videos?
— Yes, I watched all the videos already released. It’s interesting that a lot of teams had a pretty original approach, and some performances were really funny to watch (smiles). I would highlight the team’s presentation with a video with the dubbing of “Fast and the Furious” – it was original.
— What do you expect from your team and from yourself, as the winner of last year’s competition, during these departures to Khanty-Mansiysk?
— At the start of the season, it’s difficult to make predictions because we don’t know our condition. Especially on the state of their rivals. But in any case, I have confidence in my team and I think it will be interesting for us and for the public to witness such a fight at the start of the season.
— What strengths of your team will help you in the relay?
“I hope the stability of each team member will help us,” Khalili told .
