Khalili on the mass start of the MLCB Cup: “Since Serokhvostov has already explained the tactics to us, we probably won’t do it”

Olympic medalist Karim Khalili spoke to about whether it is possible to use team tactics during the International Club Biathlon League (ILCL) mass start.

The YANGPUR MLCB Cup will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk. On November 16, a mass start will take place, and on November 17, a mixed relay will take place, in which 15 teams from Russia and Belarus will participate. The biathletes will not represent the regions, but the biathlon clubs. A total of 60 athletes will participate in the competition. Khalili won the MLCB mass start last season.

— This year, the MLKB added a relay race and a team competition. What do you think of this?

– I think it’s cool. As far as I know, teams discuss it, and if they discuss it, it means they want to win the team competition. There will therefore be a fight until the very last moment, until the last participants, in order to sum up the number of points of each team and only then determine the winner. Considering that the difference in points is quite large, after the first race nothing will be clear yet.

I saw a photo of the cup that the winners of the team competition will receive. He’s really handsome. From the photo, it seems to me that it looks a bit like the Gagarin (hockey) Cup. I don’t know what it will look like in person, but from the photographs it’s impressive.

— Serokhvostov said in one of his interviews that he would like to try team tactics during the mass start. What do you think? Is this really possible?

— We’ll see, but anyway, since Serokhvostov said to try team tactics and has already talked about this tactic, we probably won’t do it (laughs). If we suddenly use it, we will try not to tell anyone about it,” Khalili told .
