Athletistic/Bobsleigh. Ukrainian bobsledder Lydia Gunko tried to reduce her sanction for violating anti-doping rules at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, counting on the lenient attitude of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to its negative stance towards Russia. This is evidenced by the CAS documents available to TASS.

During the Beijing Olympics, where Gunko took 20th place, a banned substance, dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, which belongs to the class of steroids, was found in his sample. Tests were carried out by the International Doping Control Agency (ITA), which subsequently opened an investigation. Gunko argued that the banned substance could have entered her body due to a contaminated dietary supplement and refused to open the B sample. She also noted that her previous doping samples were clean.

In defense, the athlete highlighted her negative stance towards Russia and said she received threats after her political statements at the Olympics.

The ITA called on Gunko to acknowledge the violation, which would allow it to reduce the disqualification period to three years instead of four.
