Biathlon relay medals at the 2014 Olympic Games will be redistributed after the verdict of the Swiss Federal Court

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced that the redistribution of relay medals at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games will only be carried out after the final verdict of the Swiss Federal Court (SFT) and the subsequent official decision of the executive committee of the IOC.

Previously, Russian biathlete Evgeny Ustyugov was found guilty of using the banned substance oxandrolone. The results presented by the athlete from August 27, 2013 until the end of the 2013/2014 season were canceled. Thus, the result of the Russian team in the relay at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games was canceled. Ustyugov lost the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but appealed to the SFT.

“The redistribution of medals from this competition can only be carried out after the final verdict of the SFT and the subsequent official decision of the IOC Executive Committee on the redistribution,” the message said.

The Russian team, consisting of Evgeny Ustyugov, Alexei Volkov, Dmitry Malyshko and Anton Shipulin, took first place in the relay at the 2014 Games. Germany was second, Austria third and Norway fourth.
