Double Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ichmouratova told that Evgeniy Ustyugov had virtually no chance of challenging the decision to deprive him of the 2010 Olympic gold medal.
On Tuesday, the press service of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) reported that Ustyugov will be stripped of his 2010 Olympic gold medal after his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a biological passport case was rejected.
“And you wouldn’t wish that on your enemy: losing a gold medal 14 years after winning the 2010 Olympics.” The very fact that this happened after so many years is very surprising. Of course, there is practically no chance of challenging something in a Swiss court,” Ishmuratova told .
Ustyugov can appeal this decision to the Swiss Federal Court (SFT). However, the IBU statement notes that such appeals are only permitted for narrow procedural reasons.
